Rhapsody Films
"Prior to making his better-known portraits of Sun Ra, Al Green, Ruben Blades, Sonny Rollins, and other contemporary musicians, filmmaker Robert Mugge created this unique portrait of Pulitzer Prize-winning American composer George Crumb: his life, his art, and connections between the two. The film was funded by the National Endowment for the Arts. Included in this film are performances of Crumb's Vox Balaenae for Three Masked Players, samples of the rural gospel music which has influenced him, demonstrations by Crumb of the exotic instruments and unusual effects which figure in his compositions, and scenes from his home and university teaching environment."
