Five Pieces for Piano

"The Five Pieces by George Crumb, which are played as much by plucking the piano strings with fingernails and fingertips as by striking the keys, are even more advanced in organizational conception. To this listener, the work represents the most successful un-self-conscious use of these techniques he has ever heard. The Five Pieces are immensely sensitive, and Mr. Burge matched their delicacy with his own."

Lester Trimble, Washington Star, 21 October 1963
